💡Sam Altman fired from OpenAI, joins Microsoft

💡Lots happened at OpenAI. First, Sam Altman was ousted for chasing profits over safety. Then, Microsoft and investors instigated an attempt to bring him back. Over 500 OpenAI employees sign an open letter saying they’ll go to MS if Sam isn’t reinstated. Finally, Microsoft announced Monday that Sam would be heading up a new MS product team. What’s next? I presume that OpenAI is going to have employee retention issues and could even fall apart. I think it’ll take 3-6 months to see Sam’s next MS product. I presume he’ll be heavily involved in copilot.

💡Google’s new weather forecasting AI beats current forecasting systems, and uses FAR less energy. Wins all around!

💡Microsoft is getting in the chip producing game with Maia, which is used to train and create models, and Cobalt, which is used to run models (for end users)

💡UnitedHealth is facing a lawsuit claiming they denied care to elderly Medicaid patients based on AI algorithms, leading to deaths. It’s going to be hard to prove one way or the other, and this is an important conversation that needs to be had.

💡Meta has a new AI, Emu, that can edit and create photos and videos. Coming soon in Instagram, Facebook and (presumably) WhatsApp.
