New York passes new AI law - what does this mean for you?

New York just did what Congress won’t.
It put AI labs on a leash.
Not a “principles” doc.
Not a “trust us bro” blog post.
A law.
If you build frontier models
and you’re big enough to matter
you now have to publish safety plans
and report serious incidents fast
or pay up.
Here’s the part nobody wants to say out loud:
This is the beginning of the AI compliance tax.
And guess who can afford it?
The giants.
So while everyone argues about “innovation”…
the moat gets deeper.
The upstarts get slower.
And the winners get crowned by paperwork.
You can hate the idea of regulation.
You can also hate the idea of a totally ungoverned arms race
where the only “safety standard” is
“we’ll fix it after it breaks.”
New York just forced the industry to pick a lane.
Build like adults.
Or get treated like toddlers.
